Wow. It's been a couple of weeks since I started this blog and this is only my second post. Chalk it up to really gorgeous weather here in Vancouver combined with my latest Second Life obsession - freebie fashion hunts (more about those later). No time for blogging! lolz!
For my first Multiversal Travel Diary entry I just have to share one of my favourite places in Second Life: Avion Raymaker's Devolin Paradise Resort!
Devolin Paradise is a tropical oasis that reminds me so much of Hawaii I can almost feel the relaxing island air on my skin whenever I visit. Considering how much of the year that my hometown is cloaked in clouds and dreary grey skies its no wonder that I fell in love with this little pocket of paradise the very first time I discovered it. It's the perfect antidote for a dull soggy day.
This sign greets visitors:
'Follow the paths... you will find places to walk, chat, sunbathe, dance, tai chi, cuddle, make love, shop and more. There are hotel suites and homes that you can rent if you would like to live here. Pay the rental box if you want to rent a room or a shop. Everything else in Devolin Place is free. Enjoy it.'
Devolin is an accepting community with a definite queer bent, so I feel right at home. There's a small outdoor mall that sells everything the discriminating gay guy might need to furnish a beach house, from rugs, furniture, artwork, hot-tubs and even clothing. Plus Avion kindly offers a freebie lounge in the lobby of the main hotel to help outfit your villa.
It's kind of amazing how much there is to see in this lush landscape, with the winding boardwalks and skywalks leading to all kinds of lovely private places with waterfalls, pools, lava fountains, rock arches, campfires and a gorgeous mountainside pavilion that would be the perfect place for a wedding or even a nice relaxed business meeting.
And of course - the big gay pirate ship just adds to the awesomeness of the place!
There's a small beach in front of the hotel which seems to have greened-over since the last time I used it - it must be the growing season in Devolin right now! It used to be clothing-optional but that may have changed with the new restrictions on adult content that have recently been imposed by Linden Labs. Just to be safe I kept my loincloth on. :P
One major difference from Hawaii is how quiet Devolin Paradise is; there is hardly any traffic here, which - while adding to the serene feel of the place - is a bit of a shame, as Avion has put so much work into this lovely resort that he really deserves more recognition - and renters! If you're looking for a beautiful place to live Avion has created some gorgeous Italian-style villas in addition to the large rooms in the main hotel. I snapped one up as soon as I realized one was available.
I've yet to buy any land in Second Life. I suppose there are advantages to actually owning land but I feel so at home here in Devolin that I haven't bothered to explore land ownership so far.
The three-story villas have a very generous 500 prim limit for furnishing with your own stuff, but I crammed it all into the top floor anyway... I must be used to living in close quarters. I feel most comfortable when my nest is nice and cluttered. lol!
