Summer Style on a Budget in Second Life

My last couple of posts featured outfits that ended up being pretty expensive, mostly due to being made up of a mix of items I've bought over the past few months, so I thought I'd highlight some nice cheap deals I've found recently at Navan Designs and Dark Creations.

Up top: The 99 Linden Ripped Jeans outfit. Perfect for your white trash role-play, hanging out in dark alleys, hunting hogs in the the swamp or even for dressing up as hot man-wolf Alcide from True Blood! The 99 Linden sets are a fantastic value, as they come complete with boots/shoes, hats, sunglasses and other accessories that can expand your wardrobe without spending a lot of lindens. Many of them are available in a variety of colour choices, so you're sure to find something you just have to add to your wardrobe! Photo Location: The Wash

This is the 99 Linden Mr DJ outfit in black. Again, an awesome deal at 99L, with boots, wristwatch, cap, glasses, and two sets of headphones to wear on your head or neck - or both like I did for the photo!  Photo Location: Aqua Lounge

The 99L Summertime Outfit in purple denim. Cut little jean hot-pants that I'd never wear in real life, but which look kinda hot my avatar. With a very nice tank top, cap, glasses, belt, sandals and dog-tags, in a variety of colour options for the tank. European summer-style! Photo Location: Haulover Nude Gay Beach

Also at The Wash - there's a fantastic cart sale happening with some amazing finds all for only 10L each! Some great steals here, including home furnishing, fashion, gadgets and more. You can check out the most-excellent SL Freebie Hunters blog for comprehensive look at the items for sale.

The Wash is a fun sim, with a Rockabilly theme - a great place to go to listen to awesome spirt-lifting Rockabilly music while you shop. It's home to one of my favourite shops - Hell Bop clothing - the perfect place to get some blue-collar work clothes and fashionable retro '50s outfits.

It's also home to the Fab Free Headquarters - a fantastic place for new avatars to get all kinds of free goodies from top Second Life designers. I always recommend this place to all new Second Life residents!

I got a bit distracted in my shopping by this awesome place - The Carnival of Chaos! I'm a huge comic-book nerd, so there was no way I was going to miss a Joker-themed circus! (I luv the no-bats sign out front. lol!)

I didn't stick around to ride any of the rides as I was on a cart-shopping mission, but I did check out the main tent - where you can buy some Bat-Villain avatars and Bat-Merchandise.

Of course, no Joker circus would be complete without some hungry hyenas.

The Joker doesn't seem to be a fan of other clowns muscling in on his territory!

Barbarian Angel Storms Second Life

I thought I'd show off the original version of my new shape that I was working on before I got distracted/inspired by a certain hot naked Russian gender-bender. I had been browsing the gorgeously dead-sexy barbarian outfits at Ripped (Marketplace Link) and Tamarin Forge (in-world Second Life Link) when I realized I needed a new big macho warrior shape that would complement the hot role-play clothes I bought.

I could have bought one of the beautiful shapes for sale at Tamarin Forge (Marketplace Link), but I much prefer to wear shapes I have made myself. Maybe I should go back and buy one though. They are incredibly beautiful.

This is the shape I came up with - it's amazing how different the face looks with this mouth shape, versus the fuller lips that I added for the Pavel Petel-inspired shape that this evolved into.

I had a great fun finding just the right accessories for this Barbarian Angel look, like the FREE big-ass sword from 1st Act, metal arm-guards, and beautiful wings. I mixed-and matched some items from a couple of the Ripped outfits I bought. Details below...

Insilico Cyber City

I'm so in love with this gorgeous Cyberpunk-inspired cityscape - Insilico. It's an environment filled with gorgeous futuristic towers and buildings on a world that is forever shrouded in grey twilight and fog. It's a role-play sim with it's own community and back story - and the landing area is surrounded by shops where you can outfit your avatar in the appropriate cyber-punk attire and weapons. I'm a huge fan of the movie Blade Runner and this amazing build reminds me so much of the stunning production design of that film.

I have yet to get involved in any role-play in Second Life. Maybe I just don't have enough imagination - but on the other hand what I love about SL is that it is free of any restrictive story-lines or roles - I can just wander and explore to my heart's content. Getting caught up in a bunch of rules and restrictions doesn't appeal, but I can see how it would be fun to step into a character in this gorgeous sci-fi setting and meet other players in this way.

I don't feel too out-of-place in my new Superman outfit here, but it's not quite the correct genre. I really should be wearing more bulky body armour, lots of belts and pouches, a cybernetic replacement limb or two, some giant boots and a selection of weapons if I really want to fit in - all of which are for sale in the retail area of Insilco.

...But it does still make a great back-drop for my new costume! lol!

This outfit is actually a Superboy costume, based on the original outfit that the current DC Comics Superboy (who is young clone of Superman) wore before he switched to a less colourful jeans and t-shirt ensemble. It's available at Heroic Life, which makes some of my favourite super hero costumes that I've seen so far in Second Life. Plus, they make some un-branded bodysuits and accessories that you can combine to create a super hero of your own - very cool stuff!

The creativity and stunning artistry of Insilico and Heroic Life are everything that I love about Second Life!

Super Encounter

I was hanging out in this awesome location - Xeniversity - the other day taking pictures of the gorgeous scenery/architecture and I just had to share:

... when I suddenly noticed a rather super-looking visitor:

I was going to ask him where he got his fantastic Superman suit (and those kicking boots!), but was feeling a bit shy, so I didn't. But it did give me the idea to go looking for one mysef.

After browsing around some amazing shops I ended up settling on this one by Heroic Life, with some fun boots added from my inventory:

...and then I went back to Xeniversity to take some more pics since it makes such a fantastic backdrop! LOL

Hanging with the Teeny Greenies

I've been hanging out in a hilarious place I've just stumbled across this afternoon - Greenie's Home!

I've always wondered what the world look like from the perspective of my cats and this fantastic place gives me a pretty good idea. It's a studio apartment where everything is scaled waaaaay up, and it's being over-run by very curious (and very cute) little green aliens.

I love the decor in this place - it's so retro and very similar my childhood home, right down to the avocado cupboards and sunflower wallpaper! And I can even crawl around under the sink just like I did when I was a kid. Awesome.

I've just started exploring Greenie's Home. I'm sure there's much more to see but I just had to share it with you. It's sooooo made my day! :)

Devolin Paradise Resort

Wow. It's been a couple of weeks since I started this blog and this is only my second post. Chalk it up to really gorgeous weather here in Vancouver combined with my latest Second Life obsession - freebie fashion hunts (more about those later). No time for blogging! lolz!

For my first Multiversal Travel Diary entry I just have to share one of my favourite places in Second Life: Avion Raymaker's Devolin Paradise Resort!

Devolin Paradise is a tropical oasis that reminds me so much of Hawaii I can almost feel the relaxing island air on my skin whenever I visit. Considering how much of the year that my hometown is cloaked in clouds and dreary grey skies its no wonder that I fell in love with this little pocket of paradise the very first time I discovered it. It's the perfect antidote for a dull soggy day.

This sign greets visitors:
'Follow the paths... you will find places to walk, chat, sunbathe, dance, tai chi, cuddle, make love, shop and more. There are hotel suites and homes that you can rent if you would like to live here. Pay the rental box if you want to rent a room or a shop. Everything else in Devolin Place is free. Enjoy it.'

Devolin is an accepting community with a definite queer bent, so I feel right at home. There's a small outdoor mall that sells everything the discriminating gay guy might need to furnish a beach house, from rugs, furniture, artwork, hot-tubs and even clothing. Plus Avion kindly offers a freebie lounge in the lobby of the main hotel to help outfit your villa.

It's kind of amazing how much there is to see in this lush landscape, with the winding boardwalks and skywalks leading to all kinds of lovely private places with waterfalls, pools, lava fountains, rock arches, campfires and a gorgeous mountainside pavilion that would be the perfect place for a wedding or even a nice relaxed business meeting.

And of course - the big gay pirate ship just adds to the awesomeness of the place!

There's a small beach in front of the hotel which seems to have greened-over since the last time I used it - it must be the growing season in Devolin right now! It used to be clothing-optional but that may have changed with the new restrictions on adult content that have recently been imposed by Linden Labs. Just to be safe I kept my loincloth on. :P

One major difference from Hawaii is how quiet Devolin Paradise is; there is hardly any traffic here, which - while adding to the serene feel of the place - is a bit of a shame, as Avion has put so much work into this lovely resort that he really deserves more recognition - and renters! If you're looking for a beautiful place to live Avion has created some gorgeous Italian-style villas in addition to the large rooms in the main hotel. I snapped one up as soon as I realized one was available.

I've yet to buy any land in Second Life. I suppose there are advantages to actually owning land but I feel so at home here in Devolin that I haven't bothered to explore land ownership so far.

The three-story villas have a very generous 500 prim limit for furnishing with your own stuff, but I crammed it all into the top floor anyway... I must be used to living in close quarters. I feel most comfortable when my nest is nice and cluttered. lol!
